Maintaining a Clean Home: Weekly Cleaning Tips
Keeping a clean home is extremely important for me and my mental health. Seriously, it’s a form of self-care for me. There’s something special about waking up to a clean home and going to sleep in a clean home. Tidying up my home often reduces my stress levels, saves me time overall so technically I have less to do. It may not seem that way but it’s very true. Let’s discuss this further below.

Gather Cleaning Supplies
I don’t know about you but I had to crack down on what works for me with cleaning products. There has been so much trial and error, but now I have a routine. I typically use wipes versus a microfiber cloth and a spray bottle. Wipes are way more convenient for me to use. One thing I do not do is clean my carpet I hire Professionals for that. I only vacuum, mop my floors. I have caddies for upstairs and downstairs. Mind you, I use different products in various areas of my home. I wouldn’t use stainless steel Wipes in my bathroom like in the kitchen. Other than that I have a lot of common products for both caddies such as glass wipes, comet or baking soda, disinfectant wipes, etc. I usually dread mopping however, using the O’Cedar mop simplifies the process.Create a Cleaning Schedule
If you are like me and you have a two story home, You could split your cleaning schedule by top and bottom, cleaning the whole house in one day Or tackling it daily. His breakdown of my weekly schedule:
- Sunday – Jump starts my week. I tackle the kitchen while meal prepping. Wiping down the counters the stove microwave washing dishes, cleaning the fridge out. organizing snacks for my kids lunch.
- Monday – I’ll try to get the bathrooms. mopping the floor wiping down the mirrors, cleaning the tub the toilet scrubbing the sink.
- Tuesday – We tidy up the living room. with vacuum get the toys out of the way and dust the TV stand and blinds. Wipe down the TV. Freshen up the couch.
- Wednesday – I’ll try to get the office and laundry room. I basically wipe down everything and dust. I’m in these areas the most so I’m really maintaining the cleanliness. As far as washing clothes, laundry is a constant right now you can actually see how I do my laundry here.
- Thursday – Refreshing up the bedrooms. Put clean sheets, and pillowcases on the bed, vacuum and put toys away. We’d dust in here as well. I let fresh air in by raising the window.
- Friday – We sweep outdoors in the garage and Patio.
- Saturday I do nothing but hang out with my family. That’s their day to do whatever.
Of course you can customize this to fit your lifestyle this is just what I do I hope it helps.
Consistency and Manageability
This could be challenging but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming at the same time. use timers listen to music or an audible book to get you through cleaning. if you need help from your significant other the kids if you have any get them involved as well the more the better. I have a calendar so my kids know what to do that particular day. We live in a very busy world so schedules can get hectic, everyday is not the same so make adjustments or seasonal changes when need be.
A lot of things are easier said than done however this is something that has to be done whether we like it or not. if you don’t take anything else from this article remember this, clean from the top to the bottom. Why? Whenever you wipe down the counters or that does falls on the floor you can vacuum it right on up. Share your favorite cleaning hat or routine in the comments below.
