How to reset your gut health has become one of the most researched topics nowadays! I have gone down the rabbit hole on this one because embarking on a gut healing journey can be both daunting and transformative. I’m not a spring chicken so I must do what I need for optimum health.

Just consider it as your second brain, it’s very powerful for your overall well-being. Your digestion immunity mental health energy maintaining a good health balance are crucial. This fast-paced world we’re living in makes it very difficult with all the processed food and sugar medications all of that is a gut punch no pun intended. Our bodies are so amazing! It sends us red flags whenever something is wrong.  In this case,  you may experience skin problems constipation bloating just to name a few.  The good news is, this can be restored! Let me share with you what all I have learned to heal your gut

Understanding Gut Health

The gut microbiome is a collection of trillions of microbes or microscopic organisms like bacteria and fungi in your digestive tract mostly in your large intestine. The microbes play a big role in your digestion and how your body absorb nutrients from the food, and supplements the things you ingest. To influence and improve stress, mood or your cognitive function, your gut and brain needs to be on one accord.  If you wonder why you have depression maybe brain fog this could be why. 

Signs Your Gut is Not Healthy

Here’s a list of some common indicators your gut is out of balance:

  • Low energy: Feeling a little sluggish like a sloth you may not be absorbing nutrients properly.
  • Skin problems: Psoriasis acne eczema are definitely signs of  inflammation in your gut.
  • Mood swings: depression, anxiety,  mood disorders can see him from imbalance.
  • Digestive issues: bloating, or constipation signals you have an unhealthy gut.
  • Illnesses: Roughly 70% of immune cells are in your gut and more often than not a weak immune system Could be the link between the two. 

These are some factors that can impact your gut health:

  • Medication and antibiotics: We know medication is supposed to help us unfortunately antibiotics can get rid of good bacteria which leads to imbalance.
  • Poor diet: Excessive sugar processed food along with artificial dyes or additives are very harmful bacteria which starve the good ones.
  • Stress: This is a major one high levels of stress do not help they actually interrupt your gut motility which leads to inflammation that negatively impacts digestion.
  • Lack of sleep: If your sleep is irregular this doesn’t help with your mood thus having a poor sleep pattern which alters your gut bacteria.
  • Sedentary lifestyle: I work from home, and I move around just not at a gym. Physical activity promotes and improves digestion which supports gut health.

Natural Improvements

  Do you see the pattern here? Is very easy to fall off the bandwagon.  now let’s talk about how we can restore it shall we? Let’s first reduce the sugar and processed food I know that can be hard to do in this busy world but opt for whole foods. Shop the perimeter of the store stay away from  the aisles. Stay hydrated this ensures the function properly operates. You might as well get you a membership or rewards card at your favorite Vitamin Shoppe. Include prebiotics, digestive enzymes, probiotics; these are your gut’s best friend. Eat more rich fiber food. I like a good salad myself, but I still need to incorporate fruit on a daily basis. These are essential and beneficial. I don’t personally like fermented food but if that’s you it’ll support your immunity and digestion as well. I’m working on embracing it. 

 Physical activity like walking aids your digestive system. It warms you up and gets things moving. Get your rest let’s aim for about 8-9 hours of quality sleep. During this time your body is at rest and repairing. Manage your stress by deep breathing and practicing meditation. The body keeps score so don’t let stress wreak havoc on your body. By making these simple changes your body can begin to thrive.
